SVS can be used to determine the degree exposure or freespan condition of existing pipes. The swathe data coverage of the system ensures complete uninterrupted coverage of the pipe route and its immediate corridor.

SVS can be used in conjunction with Side Scan Sonar and Sub Bottom Profiler to provide a comprehensive database of pipeline status for every metre of the entire route.

Regular (e.g. annual) inspections can be performed, whereby the influence of scour and seabed mobility can be tracked from direct comparison of successive Digital Terrain Maps (DTM's).

Inshore/landfall surveys are routinely carried out from shallow draft vessels. Entire pipeline networks have also been regularly inspected.
