Through the innovative use of variable frequency,
multi-transducer sonar, AVS offers advanced data acquisition and
processing. AVS is fully configurable in terms of frequency of
operation, number of transducers used, the seabed coverage and
the type of task the system has to perform. In addition to seabed
scanning sonar, AVS can incorporate a forward looking mode for
vertical and horizontal obstacle avoidance. The AVS system will
communicate with the AUV controls which can decide to take avoiding
action.
As AVS can be full synchronised with the AUV systems, so the
AUV mission control can be used in a more intuitive manner,
making decisions as to whether to shutdown and resurface or
to take actiion to avoid potential obstacles.
